Promoting healthy weight, good nutrition, and physical activity participation among individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual / developmental disabilities (I/DD) have been the focus of extensive research efforts by the Shriver Center’s Carol Curtin, PhD LICSW, and Linda Bandini, PhD, RD, along with their research colleague Aviva Must, PhD, at Tufts University School of Medicine.

The latest continuation of those research interests is supported by the renewal of a 5 year, $1.25 million grant of the Healthy Weight Research Network (HWRN) by the Health Resources and Services Administration’ Maternal Child Health Bureau The HWRN, co-directed by Drs. Bandini, Curtin, and Must represents a nationwide collaborative effort of researchers with the common goal of developing initiatives, interventions, and programs to support individuals with ASD and I/DD and their families and caregivers to maintain a healthy weight and healthy lifestyle.
