The Healthy Weight Research Network (HWRN), a national research network that is coordinated by UMass Medical School and Tufts University School of Medicine, will host a free symposium at the Hilton Baltimore May 11 in Maryland. The symposium will share the latest information about obesity, physical activity, and eating behavior in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities (DD).

UMass Medical School is developing a toolkit to help community health centers determine whether their emergency preparedness plans address the needs of individuals with disabilities and to assess other potential emergency planning gaps.

“Increasingly, community health centers are taking a greater responsibility for being part of the local emergency planning and have important roles to play in community emergency response,” said Sue Wolf-Fordham, JD, a principal investigator for the project to enhance emergency preparedness for community health centers.

Researchers at UMass Medical School’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center are seeking children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) ages 3 to 8 and their parents in order to better understand how children with IDD and their families experience mealtimes compared to typically developing children of the same ages.
